Public Schools
The Lancaster Public School District was established in 1836, making it the second oldest district in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The district serves a diverse population of approximately 12,000 students. The Lancaster District operates thirteen elementary school, four middle schools, one high school, and two alternative schools.

Lancaster Christian School, founded by parents in 1954, is owned and operated by the parents whose children attend the school. The Board of Directors is comprised of parents elected by the membership of the Christian School Association of Lancaster, the governing body of the school. Lancaster School of Cosmetology

The Lancaster School of Cosmetology & Therapeutic Bodywork is an accredited school that was founded and incorporated in 1979. At this time it was located in downtown Lancaster in a single-story building. In 1984 the owners of the school purchased an old elementary school building that was built in 1900, and had been vacant for some 30 years. The two-story building has since undergone a major rehabilitation and modernization, and provides 10,000 square feet of space for classrooms and student laboratory. The school can accommodate more than 60 cars in its parking lot. In 2002 the new owners purchased the school and have continued to make renovations and expand the program offerings.
